A White Birthday

When I asked Dan what he wanted to do for his birthday, he replied that he just wanted to hang out.  Since we can't take Averi anywhere, that worked out perfectly.

After hanging out in our pjs for the morning, Dan and Kaili headed outside to shovel the snow off the driveway and attempt to build a snowman.  Averi and I were so jealous of all the fun they were having that we got dressed up and joined them for 20 minutes (don't tell the doctors).

Kaili insisted on wearing the 'kitty-cat' hat that is way too small for her.  It didn't cover her ears and pulled her eyes so tight that she constantly looked surprised.

After about 10 minutes she came back inside announcing that she was too cold and finally let me bundle her up appropriately.

Averi was more than happy to confiscate the 'kitty-cat' hat, which actually fit her, and couldn't stop trying to look at it.

Dan and Kaili did their share of making snow angels and swinging on the swings before Averi and I got out there, so then it was time for the sled.  We don't really have any hills but the girls loved being pulled around the house.  Kaili didn't like going over the 'hill' of snow beside the driveway (from shoveling) and would always make us stop right before we got to it so she could hop off.

Kaili wanted to make a snowman really bad but the snow was just powder and wouldn't stick together. We ended up piling snow onto our fire pit and forming it into a semi-laying down, melting snowman.  By then Kaili was so cold it took bribing her with hot chocolate just to get her to sit down for the picture.

This is the only proof that we were all outside together.  Averi was fascinated with the snow and would not look up for anything so I had to hold her head up just to get her face in the picture.

For dinner, we did something we've never done before, ordered food from a sit down restaurant and taken it home.  It was the only way for Dan to have Olive Garden on his Birthday.  Let me tell you, food looks much less appetizing in a plastic container.

The best present Dan got was from Kaili, who ran upstairs 5 minutes before Dan opened his presents, found one of her two plastic compasses, and wrapped it herself.  She told me that it was special to her, but that he could have it because she has two of them.

I don't know that it was the dream birthday party, but at least it was fun!
