I'm a Big Kid now!

Kailani is growing up right before our eyes. I don’t know if it’s just because we are preparing for the new addition to the family, but lately I feel like she has just sprouted. Recently, Kaili has made two monumental steps in her life.

The first step happened at Christmas, when Santa brought her a “Big Girl” bed. He left it at our house since we were in Texas. The night we got home she ran upstairs to see if he had remembered her and was so excited to find the bed. She then insisted that she sleep in it that night, so at 9:00 at night we got out her new Little Mermaid sheets and set up the mattress on the floor (Santa forgot to leave a bed rail). To our amazement, she stayed in it all night, and has ever since.

Her first night as a big girl. She looked so small.

Dan and I love having her in a bed because we can cuddle with her now. She has never been a cuddler, even as a baby, but she lets us lay down with her every once in a while.

The other night, after about an hour of playing in bed, I went to check on Kaili. This is what I found. I have no idea how that is comfortable enough to fall asleep but it sure is cute!

Being the big girl that she is, Kaili has also learned how to use the potty! She has been potty trained for three weeks now and we are so proud of her. I decided to read “Toilet Training in Less Than a Day” and see if I could bypass the months of fighting about wet pants. It worked! After a very long and attention needy day, Kaili was wearing big girl panties and hasn’t looked back. By the time Dan got home from work that day she was using the potty unprompted, pulling her pants up by herself, emptying the potty into the toilet, flushing, and even sanitizing her hands. She wears “night time panties” (pull-ups) at night, but other than that we have been diaper free ever since, which is surprising since I came down with strep throat the next day.
Part of the program was having her teach a doll how to use the potty correctly. She loved it and still dresses her dolls in big girl panties.
Just try to tell me that those diaper free cheeks aren’t adorable! I love her little bum.

The book I used was written in the ‘70s so it had a few funny comments in it. This was my favorite picture. It says, “Happiness is dry pants.”

The other day I got out of the shower to find Dan dressing all of Kaili’s cats in not only pajamas but panties as well. He claims that he was just doing what she asked him to do. This coming from the man who got home and put on his white t-shirt and whitey-tighties to match his potty training daughter. (Sorry, I have been threatened with my life if I put those pictures on the blog.)

We are so proud of Kaili and the progress that she is making in her life. She is such a joy to us and we are so glad that she is a part of our family.

What a great blog! I always love seeing how much Kaili has grown and what you all are up to. I can't believe how fast she was potty trained.

Congrats on getting her potty trained! It's great, isn't it?

Just wait until you start changing the baby's diaper. Kaili's butt will seem so big!

I hope you don't mind, but I wandered in on your blog. Those are some huge steps she has taken and I can't believe you potty trained her in a day. A day. Wow.

I know what you meant about being pregnant and having your older child seem to grow immediately. Whenever I bring a newborn home I can't belive how big my former, "baby" looks.

She is so gorgeous. She has the prettiest eyes!

Way to go Kaili! What a big girl sleeping in her bed all night and being potty trained! Way to go Tiff for being such a great teacher! One day!? Awesome! You'll have to come and teach Brooklyn when it's time for her. I laughed out loud reading this. That pic of Kaili sleeping half way out of her bed is hilarious. Brooklyn sleeps in weird and uncomfortable looking positions all the time, too. In regards to that pic of Dan in his "potty-trained" attire... you have the best leverage possible. Use it well, sis. :)
